Blue Arrows (Fatima route) on Portuguese Camino

Apologize for posting this here but nobody has ever replied to any of my (3) posts over in the Camino Portuguese forum.

Does anybody know if the blue (Fatima) arrows are present on the Coastal route or the Central route south of Redondelo?

I am right now cycling the Portuguese Camino *backwards* from Santiago to Lisbon and will reach Redondelo tomorrow where I’ll have to make the choice to follow the Coastal or Central route. I want to go whichever way has the blue arrows because they are keeping me from getting lost.

Last year I walked the central route from Porto and saw frequent blue arrows as well as yellow.

I walked it last year and plenty of blue arrows with letter 'b' and if you follow them I expect will lead you to fatima. I was following the coastal route but did end up joining the central route at villa de conde walking opposite direction your traveling

Yes, I too saw the blue arrows all along the central route.

I am currently in Redondela and the blue arrows have been ever present since Porto, and they were well marked south of Porto. You should have absolutely no problem. Buen camino!

I have seen many blue arrows on the coastal route. Currently in Redondelo and came via coastal route. BUT can’t confirm they are consistent enough to guide you. We have passed at least 2 bikers and several hikers doing a reverse, and they did not seem to be having difficulties.

Hi, an unrelated question, if you don't mind. I'm contemplating a cycle trip from Lisbon, to Santiago, maybe early next month and was wondering which way the winds are predominately blowing on your trip. Google aside, you seem to be perfectly placed! Cheers, John

I Don't recall blue arrows on the coasts route. The split to Fatima is before Porto going to S.

I think it depends which way you are going and if you are going south from Redondela the split to Fatima is after Porto. Certainly, I saw blue arrows pointing south while in Porto and along the route north from Porto, implying that the Fatima route south through Portugal from Spain passes through Porto.

You definitely need to be on the Central Route

I saw many blue Fatima arrows on the Central way, it's well-marked all the way from Lisbon, then from Porto onwards to the border of Spain. I also saw blue arrows on the Coastal way from Porto but they were less frequent. Saw some walkers making a Camino backwards on both routes, so it should be fine. Bom Caminho!

So far from Santiago to Porto wind hasn’t even been an issue like it is on a USA cross country. Probably cuz you’re in woods and hills so much. No long flat stretches. Or maybe I have a tailwind so I don’t notice wind against me.

THE issue (which you’ll have either direction) is some serious pushing (or carrying) up and down rocky peaks at points between Pontevedra and Ponte de Lima. The CP Central route requires a seriously heavy big tired mountain bike (the one Bike Iberia rented me is perfect - you can see it on their website, they call it a “Camino Mountain Bike”). I’ve got panniers. I’ve seen guys out on shorter trips (Porto to SDC) using small backpacks. I’ve never ridden with anything on my back (I’m a roadie) so that was out of the question for me. But if the backpack is small enough, you might be able to carry the bike up and down the rocks while wearing the backpack. It was hard but I was able to push up the rock hills with the panniers. Plan B if I couldn’t was to take the panniers off, push the bike up, then walk back for the panniers.

In fact, I am back online now to try to find out if there will be any more rock pushing peaks between Porto and Lisbon. Does anyone know? I have to do 2 stages a day to make it to Lisbon in time for my flight home. Which is totally doable unless some of these stretches that Brierley rates up to 58% “natural path” are rock pushing up and down hills.
