Boot Shrines?

Can someone shed light on the mystery shoe(s) left as shrines on top of waymarks?
Here are just two examples of anti have passed along the way.

This last one, on the way to Villar de Mazarife, is a fairly new pair of Salomon trainers. (Alas, not my size)

They always seem to have the laces removed.

Is this just a Camino meme? Or is there something deeper being communicated?

TIA,

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

The battered and threadbare boot has been artfully juxtaposed with the concrete mileage marker, a mute commentary on the fragility and tenacity of the human spirit when confronted with the seemingly implacable demands of the Way.
Well maybe the first few. Now they seem to be everywhere and are probably seen as more pilgrim junk to be cleared up.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

You must have taken a course on writing for artists. :D

These weren't litter. They were a garden ornament in Agés.

The first time I saw boots on a marker I thought it was "so camino", the second time, 'cute' by the time I'd seen the sixth or seventh pair - not so cute!
