We just bought our airline tickets last night from US to London! Now we are trying to decide which way to go to get to SJPP. If we fly into Bordeaux how far is it to SJPP and are there hostels along the way?

It is about 250kms from Bordeaux to St Jean. In 2004 we took 12 days to walk from Bordeaux to Roncesvalles.
There are refuges along the way - I have tried to send it to you PM box.

Walking from Bordeaux

Sil,

When you walked from Bordeaux to SJPP, approximately how many km per day did you walk?
What was the terrain like?
Are there plenty of hostals?

I'd like to start somewhere along the way that would take maybe 1 week to get to SJPP. Any suggestions?

Hello Deborah,
It is about 250kms from Bordeaux to St Jean. In 2004 we took 10 days to walk from Bordeaux to Roncesvalles. The terrain is mostly flat from Bordeaux to about Peyrehorade and then it starts to get a bit hilly and undulating. A week of walking ± 25kms on that road would mean starting at La Muret or Labouheyre.
There are some refuges along the way but nothing like on the Camino Frances. I have got a 2004 list of albergues - mail me if you want me to send you the list.
