Finished my 3rd Camino on the Frances on the afternoon of Friday 13/6/14 and as I had brought a friend along on her 1st camino I thought it might be nice after collecting our compostelas, to bring her for a brief visit to the Cathedral on Friday evening before attending the Pigrim Mass at noon on Saturday but as the queue in the Pilgrim Office was shorter than expected we found ourselves at the Cathedral in time for the 7.30 evening mass and to my pleasant surprise the Butafumeiro was swung which means I've had the great fortune to catch it at the finish of all 3 of my caminos but I'd always been of the belief that it was only swung as part of the noon mass, can any of the more experienced members offer insight as to whether this was a very uncommon occurence or is the noon mass no more likely than the 9 am and 7.30 pm masses to see the butafumeiro being swung?

"Every Friday in 2014 from April 1 to December 31 and after the 19:30 mass Botafumeiro works as part of the offering of the Pilgrim, thanks to the collaboration between the Cathedral, the City Council, the Consortium of Santiago, the chamber of Commerce and Hospitality Association Compostela ..

We can see the swinging of the Botafumeiro the rest of the year here: http://www.horariosbotafumeiro.com"

mspath, many thanks for the clarification and information, it was a surprise for me although a very pleasant one and it helped round off a wonderful 1st camino for my friend Rosa.

And you avoided Friday the 13th!

I have watched it swing three times in a day, and once at a 9 p.m. special mass for a group of politicians who had been meeting at the Parador. It swings at any mass when someone pays.

Oops Falcon, just saw the typo in my dates, it was of course the 7.30 pm mass on Friday 13th so that's proved my lucky rabbit's paw is just superstitious baloney or is it?

Friday the 13th can be lucky, or at least give the illusion of luck!

I too finished on Friday 13th of June and was present at the 7:30 mass. The cathedral in Santiago is such a sacred space and the bontafumeiro was icing on the cake
