Budgeting for a family of 6

Time of past OR future Camino
April (2019)
My family of 6 (mom, dad, 15yo, 13yo, 10yo, 7yo) will be walking the Camino in spring of 2019. We are saving for the experience now. I am wondering how the pricing for albergues work - is it per person? Are children charged as much as adults? I'm not sure how much to plug into the budget for this part of our journey.

St James' Way - Self-guided 4-7 day Walking Packages, Reading to Southampton, 110 kms
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
We found, as a family of 4, that cheap hotels/pensions/casas rurales were often around the same price or only marginally more than paying for individual bunks in an albergue. Also always worth asking as to the charge/possibility of adding an extra bed for a child in an advertised room rate as sometimes the child can be added or for a token amount.
Plus side you get more flexibility on times especially check in and out, often breakfast included, private space and own bathroom and allows advanced booking so no bed race if one of the children is having a tough day, no snorers nor early risers/late arrivers to wake you.
Negatives, less communal, no cooking facilities, sometimes having to split into 2 rooms, some people feel you lose the "essence" of the Camino.

Thank you! This is great info.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Oh yes, campsite cabins and with a party your size you should also check out apartments. There are several places along the way that rent out multi bedroomed places for just the one night, these also provide cooking and washing facilities. Gronze.com lists some, also look out booking.com and airbnb. We also got an apartment from a couple of hotels that weren't advertised in Pamplona and Portomarin.
