Burgos Decathlon

Hi all,

If you happen to be in Burgos and require more hiking equipment/clothing, by all means visit Decathlon located outside the main centre of Burgos. Simply catch the FREE Bus (clearly emblazoned “HIPERCOR” on a yellow bus) which can be caught directly outside the Teatro Theatre which is directly opposite the monument of El Cid. The bus ride takes 10 mins and stops at the covered carpark with the Decathlon Store a mere 150 m walk (hard to miss). The bus comes around every 30-45 mins and also goes back into Burgos Centre. However......guys.....if you are like me i.e. 6ft 6 in and 140 kg, the forget about getting any shirts, jumpers or costs above 3XL. Seems they cater only for midgets . There is a Base store on Calle Madrid, not far from the bus station.....guess I’ll try there now!

Spanish and SOME EU sizes, at least for men, run about two sizes smaller than usual. For example, I wear an XL t-shirt or polo here in the US. But when I show up at the Pilgrim Office for my annual monthly stint, my t-shirts are XXXL. This gives me the equivalent fit to the XL. I do not like fitted outer garments.

I am only about 179 centimeters (I shrank from 185). But, I share your girth, at 113 kg. Yikes. It is relative, but my torso shape is that of a beer keg...see avatar...

That said, I have bought men's Adidas branded polos in XL at the Santiago Decathlon that fit perfectly. If I buy the house brand Quechua, I usually have to go up one size, to XXL, just to get it to fit. If I want a roomy fit, my preference, I must usually go up two full sizes.

So, if you are trying to buy the least expensive Decathlon-brand shirts, start at the high end, try it on and hope for the best.

Note, and for the record, I have had the same problem when trying to buy nice sweaters in Italy, and in France.

The usual size for who? If you had decathlon in China the 3XL would be the equivalent to size S in the US

decathlon keep resizing their sizes in Europe so I seem to get fatter its probably because they want everyone to feel more depressed and buy more clothes from them to do more exercise in.... a good game plan

its a French store remember so the european sizes are the usual sizes

I rather liked the first mention of midgets. Must be really small. Specially as some people call midges ‘midgets’ ....

If Decathlon does not have what you are looking for or you prefer to try a town-centre shop first then a useful alternative might be BASE - one of a chain of outdoor stores. There is a branch just south of the old town centre in Burgos. Not as large as Decathlon but with a pretty good range of gear for walkers.
