Apologies if this has already been discussed but I couldn't find anything when I searched. I am looking for more information regarding the bus service from Pamplona to St Jean. Google brings up precious little about it and all the bus search engines bring up nothing when you enter these points, no matter what date yo put in. It's my understanding it's a seasonal bus and runs maybe twice a day. And is not pre-bookable, but I could be wrong. Anyone know anything more about it?

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

I've recently gone through the same search and there is very little information out there... most searches lead to this forum. There are private transfer cars which aren't too expensive if you can find someone to share... which we could do as there are 7 of us.

I think there is an ALSA bus and one other bus service but very little up to date information... I wonder if schedules are announced in Spring?

I found a taxi that was based in St Jean. There are also the luggage transport companies who also do return trips. This was the company I booked with https://www.napoleon-compostelle.fr/en/ - there are others worth investigating too.

Good luck! let us know if you find out about the buses!

Roughly the ALSA/CONDA schedule over the last few years has been:

Jan No service
Feb No service
Mar 14:30
Apr 14:30 17:30
May 14:30 17:30
Jun 10:00 14:30 17:30
Jul 10:00 12:00 14:30 17:30
Aug 10:00 12:00 14:30 17:30
Sep 10:00 14:30 17:30
Oct 14:30 17:30
Nov No service
Dec No service

The ALSA website in English is at URL https://www.ALSA.es/en/ and the CONDA schedules are incorporated there. Besides getting the schedule CONDA tickets can be bought online ahead of time from the ALSA website as well.

Note 1: When using the ALSA website to book transportation to St. Jean Pied de Port you must spell out St. in full as Saint or the town will not be found.

Note 2: ALSA does not load its full schedule into the website all at once. I think they publish the schedule only for the next two months. This means that if you try to book a trip through the website for a date later in the year (e.g., trying to book an October 2020 trip in July 2020) the schedule may not be found. This also means that during the winter months the website will make it look as if there is no service at all.

Note 3: ALSA may refuse to accept non-Spanish issued credit cards. In that case the tickets can be paid for using PayPal. Alternatively they could be bought from a reseller.

Note 4: CONDA has a webpage with a schedule. Do not trust this schedule. The last time I checked it had the 2015 schedule. When the webpage is served up it is labelled at the bottom with the date that the webpage was served (not the creation date or date of validity) thus making the information appear to be current. This page is at http://www.CONDA.es/eventos.php?tipo=3&id=438

Edit: I pre-booked in 2015 using Paypal.

This is excellent information. Thank you very much. It sounds pretty stab-in-the-dark. But possible.

You aren't likely to have any problems but there are two other bus lines that go part way. See the the post I link to below and the one following that one. These were written for someone interested in traveling during the winter season but these are year run schedules. By the way, the service all the way to SJPdP is by CONDA but ALSA is part owner of CONDA.

The bus service is operated by ALSA under the banner of CONDA. Normally there is one bus in April, usually late afternoon, to meet Easter demand, expanding to three per day by summer, with earliest departing at 1000, then dropping to one in October.

ALSA normally updates its schedules one month in advance. You should be able to book it after there is a schedule ... but it is a separate ticket San Sebastian - Pamplona - SJPdP.

Meanwhile the train from Bayonne to SJPdP operates 4 or 5 times daily all year. Its as easy to get to Bayonne as Pamplona.

Hello, just out of interest, where are you travelling to after SJPdP? Reason I’m asking this is, you can catch a bus from Pamplona to Biarritz.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
