Hi everyone. Does anyone have any recent experience buying a wooden walking stick in Irun? It sounds like bringing my poles is going to be a headache since I'm only taking carry on baggage. Last Camino I was able to buy a wooden stick for 7 euros in Oviedo square. Hiking poles (decathlon etc) seem to be quite expensive to buy. Thanks in advance, Sara.

These days I carry my poles as check-in baggage. In the past when I used a single stick I sometimes just bought a wooden broom handle and a rubber walking stick ferrule from a ferreteria or China bazaar on arrival and used that as a staff. Usually with my spare bootlaces looped through the handle as a wrist strap. Cheap but effective.

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

Decathlon are offering poles at €5.99. I guess it depends what you want for your money
A couple of weeks ago I binge-watched a tv series about "celebrities" being introduced to Scottish scenery and wildlife. Couldn't help being distracted by the fact that the production budget clearly stretched only as far as providing the cheapest pale blue Decathlon poles for the celebs. But to be fair I've used them too and found they did the job well enough! :)

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
You can just make one:
I usually find something to fashion into a walking stick first or second day. I buy a few bits to personalize it in a china shop or ferreteria. Sometimes I give them away, sometimes they make it home with me. Here's a few:20230113_203713.jpg

I didn't see any shops in Irun (didn't look specifically for them... just didn't see them). If you take a bus/train into Bayonne - I think there is a Decathlon there I was considering starting my hike in Bayonne and getting the poles there (not wood ones). I bought poles in Paris at a Decathlon while waiting to catch my train to Bayonne.

wooden poles work well i picked up two old wooden painters poles from a skip bin in Irun in September ( 1 for each of us) bought rubber end caps in a dollar shop and used them as far as Santander.
Look in a 2$ shop for your poles. Our ages 78 and 75.
