Camino Budget

Hi All,

I'm setting off on my first Camino next Monday 20th from Ferrol, and I was just wondering what recommendations people might have in terms of budget as this was a fairly last minute decision to do a a camino! I am hoping to stay in municipal albergues wherever possible and have rooms booked in Ferrol, Sigueiro and Santiago so as to keep costs down. With the Albergues, do they generally fill up by a certain time or can I be fairly confident of getting a bed by 4pm?
During the day, I'm hoping to keep costs down by bringing cereal bars and nuts but regarding lunch and dinner, how expensive to places along the way tend to be? Is €15 a day food budget enough if I'm prudent or should I be allowing for more? (I'm from Ireland where everything is HUGELY expensive so I'm hoping Spain is more affordable!).
and finally, am I best bringing cash with me in the anticipation that there won't be many atm's along the way.
Any advice will be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance,

Beccy

Hola Beccy

By the time you leave there should be a new edition of my Guide to this route available to download from the resources section of the forum. I sent it to Ivar just a few minutes ago.

Whether you stay for the first night in the albergue in Neda (14 kms) or in Pontedeume (29 kms via Neda or 23 kms on alternative route) you will soon get a feel for the number of other pilgrims on the Way at the same time as you. I have been out on the Camino Ingles in the last couple of weeks and there are plenty of other pilgrims around. Two weeks ago the albergue at Hospital de Bruma was full by 5pm. However in each place there is cheap alternative private accommodation. You'll see this in the guide. Keep some money as a reserve.

Coffee is still around 1€ on this route with breakfast with toast, jam and coffee at around 3€. Three course meal with bread and wine - 8- 10 euros and supermarkets along the way to buy whatever you wish to make yourself.

Let us know how you get on!

Thank you! That all really helps and I'm delighted the new guide came out just before leaving! Will update with how it all goes :)

Hi Beccy,

Love to hear how your Camino went....I hate to say it but I'm planning to hit the route with my father in September...although the biggest challenge seems to be that the flight from London to A Coruna arrives at nearly 9pm local time, which means the early train to Ferrol and everything that follows from there. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes.

Beautiful walking weather on the Camino Ingles today
On one of the FB forums, someone asked about detouring to Fragas do Eume, just outside of Pontedeume, and it looks amazing. Since I'm splitting up Ferrol - Pontedeume into two days (taking the...
