Confessions in English available at confessional 14 morning and afternoons.

Chapel open all day for reflection

Evening prayer in English at 6.30pm

This will continue until 16 October and resume in Holy Week 2015.

I meant to write but life has been busy. I met Johnnie at this special Mass in May on my last day in Santiago. It was my 4th time in Santiago and I had made a special effort to meet up with someone who had shared my Camino with me. He was waiting on his wife to arrive and I was waiting to go home! BUT at the last minute and with my bag! already out of the Seminario Major I got to the English Mass late...I missed writing the special intentions but knew immediately that this Mass could have been called an Irish Mass..a young Irish man read a lesson, some more read prayers, the Priest knew their names, they were already special to him. The woman on my right asked for prayers for her sister as she had lost a child. I just cried as I had lost my sister. This Mass was the most special moment of my entire Camino on the Via de la Plata. I went home restored and saw the young man on my flight home also. The people who work for us and support us in Santiago are truly special people. And I saw an Irish Amigo in the office too...

This is great news!
I was under the impression the Chaplaincy would end this year at October, not thru October 16th. How wonderful!
Thank you Johnnie, the Amigos and the priests that make this such a wonderful opportunity to experience the Eucharist together in an intimate chapel in the Cathedral.
That said, I did sorta look forward to my confessor not speaking English. Easier to cover my tracks you know.

The lovely English mass, hosted in May 2014 by dear Father Joe from Cork, was one of the most special and cathartic experiences I had on my Camino. Thank you for organising these masses.

I too participated in Masses at which Fr. Joe was the celebrant. I found his homilies so deeply spiritual and challenging. yes challenging. That can be the essence of a good homily "to comfort those who are in distress and to disturb those who are too comfortable."

One day he spoke about "Enough is enough". We all learn that to some degree on the Camino, but he set it down deep in my heart.

These days with threats of a very cold Irish winter I realise I do not need several very warm sweaters knitted with difficulty over the years and much loved. One will do. I live in a house with a good roof and there are many homeless out there. So I am packing them up to bring to "Trust" where nurse Alice Leahy looks after homeless people during the day in the center of Dublin.

Hi Una, it's a pity that you missed the start of Father Joe's mass. He'd start by welcoming all those present to the service with a special welcome to those of other religious persuasions. He would then introduce himself and invite those present to do the same: he'd ask them to say who they were, which country they came from, where their journey to Compostela started and how they got there. It was fairly straight forward at the start of May when approx thirty attended but by the end of the month, word was out and the services were packed to the door and beyond: Father Joe did do his best though to allow everyone to speak. The mass 'intentions' were also open to the congregations to participate in and many of those offered were heart rending. These were truly special services and I was very lucky to attend a number during my three weeks in the city.

Oh, and the Irish Amigo in the office was either Lydia or me
