Camino de Madrid, May (2018)
Started my Camino de Madrid today by obtaining my first sello at Iglesia Santiago, then walking to Plaza Castilla, the first 6.5 kms. I will take the metro back in the morning and be on my way to Tres Cantos.
I met Wim and Josette from Belgium, who are starting today. I am 74, they are older, so so much for winning that badge .20180522_124032.jpg

Buen camino, Bill,
I think you will be glad you walked from Plaza Castilla rather than training it. Leaving Madrid on this route is painless, no ugly industrial areas, just walk under the M-40 ring road past some very elaborate graffiti, and BAM, you are in the country. Lots of great views backwards from then on. Looking forward to hearing how it goes for you!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hi Bill, we received our credential and our blessing this morning. We will be right behind you tomorrow Fuencarrol to Tres Cantos. Buen Camino!

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
Hi @Texas Bill
All the best. Just take your time . Sounds like you’ll have some company close by. That will add to the enjoyment I think.
Ps. You look very fit and you don’t look 74.
Buen Camino

My face is fit, the rest of me not too much. Two nights of good Spanish craft beer hasn't helped.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
@Texas Bill I found the first couple of stages of the Madrid the toughest, mainly because the accommodation options were not so good. I stayed at a hotel in Tres Cantos, then skipped Manzanares and found a really good municipal albergue at Mataelpino, used the deportivo (police or tourist office arrange) at Cercedilla because the two youth hostels on the outskirts of town were not open. After that it is easy.

I'm staying at Hostel Tres Cantos, which is nice, for €38 with breakfast. Not close to Camino tho, so will take taxi to it in the morning.
