Camino de Santiago de la ría Muros - Noia - Newly approved Camino

Officially recognised by the Pilgrim Office in December 2020, this Camino has quickly gained in popularity, easily bypassing the Invierno and Muxia-Finisterre in popularity with 513* Compostelas issued for completions in August.

This Camino is another of the shorter Caminos and it starts on the West Coast of Galicia. It is known for its short, easy stages with the suggested stages listed below.

The Camino de Santiago of the estuary of Muros-Noia consists of a total of 10 stages that originally go from the town of Muros to Santiago de Compostela.
Stage 1: Muros - Esteiro (14 km)
Stage 2: Esteiro - Cruceiro de Roo (8.5 km)
Stage 3: Cruceiro de Roo - Serra de Outes (3.5 km)
Stage 4: Serra de Outes - Noia (14.8 km)
Stage 5: Porto do Son - Portosin (8 km)
Stage 6: Portosin - Noia (7.7 km)
Stage 7: Noia - San Xusto (8.9 km)
Stage 8: San Xusto - Urdilde (9.3 km)

The Compostella collectors will love this one ! Makes you wonder why this one can be shorter and qualify but Coruna or just directly from either Finisterra/Muxia doesn't.

When looking at a map the route seems odd, in that you walk the northern edge of the Ria de Muros y Noia as far as Noia and then start on the southern edge from Porto do Son back to Noia before heading inland to Santiago.

Do you or any other forum member happen to know if there is some significance to this and whether there is a walking stage from Noia to Portoo do Son or whether you would take public transport or a boat?

Hi, I had a quick look on Google Maps and didn't have the problem that you highlighted and so I suspect there are towns with similar names in this area.

Below is a route that I looked at on Google Maps. Please be aware that while the route follows the towns listed on the route it isn't necessarily the Camino route. Google Maps tends to route walkers along roads whereas many Caminos will route along walking paths that Google Maps doesn't have access to.

You can start on either bank of the estuary. It would be nice if there was a route from Cee to Muros which would give another route to/from Finisterre

Having looked at the two sites that I found with information about this Camino I can't find an answer to your question.

You are correct. It is not clear how to get from Noia to Porto do Son.

Found this which may help:

The route has the peculiarity of having a double starting point: from both banks of the Muros-Noia estuary .

The northern Muradana route is somewhat longer (about 80 km), while the Sonense route is about 53 km long. Once you meet in Noia, the tour continues through Lousame and heads inland through Rois, to then approach the final destination: the tomb of the Apostle in the cathedral of Santiago.

We will highlight 2 very special routes to travel the Camino de Santiago from the Muros-Noia estuary ; one that goes from west to east and the second that has two starting points: the port of Muros and the watchtower of Porto do Son.

Shorter than 100 km? Are you including the entire route to Santiago?

I haven't measured an off road track but certainly the road distance is well under 100klm from both start points, however the Northern route looks to be a little longer.

Do we have anyone on the forum who has actually walked this Camino?
