Camino Del Norte ×credencial/sellos/compostela?

Hello everyone,

Hope you all are well!

I am hoping to complete the Camino del Norte this year (covid permitting) Irun - Santiago de Compostela. From mid April this year.

My questions and concerns are, can you be awarded a completion certificate on this route?

Would I have to cut across to Sarria to the collect enough stamps (sellos)

Where can I collect a pilgrim passport on this route in Irun or would I need to collect a pilgrim passport from SJPDP then walk to Irun?

Is there a way I can stay on the del Norte and still be awarded a completion certificate?

Sorry to ask so many questions I can't find anywhere the answers to the questions that concern me.

Buy a credential on Ivar’s store, associated with this forum - or , better, wait a couple of weeks and buy a special one for the ‘holy year’.

Take two with you. I found getting one stamp per day and two in Galicia and the occasional additional interesting one you might want will easily fill up one book before you get to SDC especially if you plan on finishing in Fisterra or Muxia. I have one very special stamp. It is from Cabildo De La Santa Iglesia Cathederal in Mondonedo and has been used for over two hundred years. It was of course probably for things other than pilgrim passports but now if you take the time to stop by and also visit the museum, which also has its own stamp you can get the two hundred year one. By the way when heading out of Mondonedo go for the high route (La Ruta Principal) despite what some locals may tell you. It a well defined and marked path that will put you on top of one of the highest peaks in the region, great views from a crocus studded mountain top. Some friends took the low route and described it as a measurable road walk. Enjoy your journey.

Yes, the Camino del Norte, along with many other routes is a recognized Camino routes and qualifies for a Compostela.

Nope, continue on the Norte, or switch over to the Primitivo to finish.

Hi Ross, the albergues run by the Association de Amigos often sell pilgrim passports; I normally pick one up on arrival in Irun for a couple of euros, but given the lack of guarantee that anything will be open in 3 months' time, it might be best getting one in advance. (p.s. if for any reason you need to pick up another credencial along the way.... you can check the 'albergue de peregrinos' for each stage on Gronze, to see whether or not they 'expiden la credencial')

Hi,
I walked the Norte in 2019 from San Sebastian to Bilbao then transferred to Sarria to complete my walk.
I found the first few days from San Sebastian very difficult.Yes I was 67 yrs old but fit and healthy.I took all the precautions with my feet but had many blisters.
The 2 walks are "chalk and cheese" in comparison.Would I walk again? Yes.I had planned to walk from Oporto to Santiago in May 2020.There is always next year.

As soon as you get to Vilalba on the Norte begin collecting your two sellos per day. That's 120 km out and sufficient to qualify for the compostela. You will join the Frances at Arzua, of course, to finish the walk into Santiago.
