Sorry this week's video is so long, but hey, this is such an important topic!

For new Pilgrims, this is a basic guide to all the eating options......

Here's a chance to share your own food tips. Maybe those with different experiences could share tips on food shopping for communal cooking, food options for Vegetarians, and I'm sure 101 other 'vital' matters regarding food :)

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I really enjoyed your video and details within. I have begun a list of common food words and especially how to order fried eggs, bacon, and toast as I too love breakfast!

Nice video, Rob! My comments:

There were also plenty of markets or grocery stores along the Del Norte and Primitivo as well.

BUT! Be aware of holidays, when even grocery stores may be closed. I almost ran out of food on the more remote Camino Primitivo when I overlooked the fact that just about everything shuts down for All Saints Day!

Yes…those memorable Camino meals…I wrote about my most memorable Camino meal here:

Very light, comfortable and compressible poncho. Specially designed for protection against water for any activity.

Our Atmospheric H30 poncho offers lightness and waterproofness. Easily compressible and made with our Waterproof fabric, its heat-sealed interior seams guarantee its waterproofness. Includes carrying bag.

I had a handful of Spanish lessons a few years ago.
Sadly my Spanish Teacher Jose died of Covid in Madrid earlier this year.
Lovely guy :(

On my phone I have my Camino spreadsheet. With tabs for everything!

Here is part of the Language tab, that focusses on Food.
Some is phonetically spelt to help me with pronunciation.

I'm sure other can add more or correct any errors they spot in my list.

One thing worth considering with food on the different Caminos is the different regional cuisines. We see that already on the Frances. Pulpo and Caldo Gallego, that some people love, are found at the end of the Camino Frances not at the beginning, for example. The differences with other routes, I believe, will not be in lack of infrastructure (people need groceries, and like to eat out across Spain) but in the different regional cuisines one will encounter.

It might be worth a thread on "What are the 'must try' dishes on each Camino route?".

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
One of the best meals I had was in Sarria at Matias. Fabulous Italian food.
Other notable meals - Vegetarian Pasta and salad in St. Nikolas by candlelight, fresh Paella in Hornillas in El Alfar, fresh Vegetarian Paella in Rosalia in Castrojeriz, Simple but delicious meal in Villamayor at San Luis de Francia all cooked by a hard working mom, and another fresh meal in Rabe' de Las Calzadas at Liberanos Domine.

So sorry to hear of your teacher passing away. Thank you very much for posting this information as I have begun making a list and will add your information to it. Yea!!!

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

You aren't the only one who gained weight on the Camino. I did, but probably more the beer than the food. Not too crazy about Spanish food and got tired of their lousy french fries.

Bacon is tocino in Spanish. I am a native speaker but Spain Spanish is different than Latin American Spanish which is what I speak. Also there is no ”l” in paella. The double is always pronounced as a “y”

I live in Latin America and am fluent in Spanish, and I don’t understand half of what is on the menu. Don’t feel bad. I kept contacting a friend who lived in Spain for 25 years to get a translation.😉

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.

Yes, true. My pronunciation is awful. I'll try to remember the double L!
Though my Spanish Teacher, from Ponferrada, assured me Bacon is the same.
It seems to work.

Yes, Spain Spanish is a language unto itself. Thanks for your posts.

Hi Rob

Thanks for the video. I live in Gosford soon to move to Newcastle. Can you let me know where you live?
