What is the distance of the Camino Frances from SJPP to SDC if you take Napoleon route to Roncesvalles and you stay on main Camino and no alternate routes...in KM
It depends which source you look at. My Brierley says it is 778.5 km from St Jean to Santiago.

I say 816 kms…..790 kms road sign in Roncesvalles + 26 kms from SJPP to get there.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.

I think that sign indicates the distance if one drove on the old national roads like N-135, etc. from Roncevalles to SdC. I don't believe it has anything to do with the walking distance.
I have attached a photo of a ancient stele that is very close to the Spanish/French border on the Napoleon Route that indicate 765km from that point. DSCN0061.JPG

My distance walked was 982 kms but that included going to cafes/bars during the day and ambling around in the evening - looking for bars/restaurants and of course fellow pilgrims. I always say the Camino Frances is 800 kms as that translates to 500 miles.

I walked from Pamplona and 'The Wise Pilgrim' guide gives that as 700kms.
However in The Office at SdC my Compostela was given as 729kms.
As I was on the Camino for 29 days I reckon they give an extra K a day to allow for your journey to the bar every evening.
Just saying.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
I know that but take a moment to be romantic….800+ sounds so much more impressive than anything in the 700’s !!
Agree totally but my point was the total walking distance recorded on the distance certificate is only 779km (that obviously ignores personal deviations from the path), so shorter by foot than by car. All in all, an adventure not to be missed.

Agree! I did run my Strava (gps app) during the Camino Frances which I recently finished. I walked every single km, never used any form of transport. I started the app every day leaving the albergue and stopped when arriving to the next one, not pausing the app during the day. From the Pilgrim Office in SJPP to Santiago Cathedral I got 810.23 km. But obviously it includes lots of extra steps when you see something interesting, miss an arrow, change your mind, turn to have a coffee or when you need to make a pit stop out in the woods. Still, I walked those 810 km anyways and it's my personal 'certificate of distance' issued not by the Santiago Pilgrim Office, but the satellites watching my Camino from the sky :)

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
I have the gpx trails imported into Excel and the heights of each location from the Google Earth API, I then calculate the distance between each point using 3D trigonometry. I calculate the distance via Route Napoleon and the main Camino options to be 770.6km. However, I would caution the more I dig into trying to calculate the distances accurately, the more difficult it becomes and to get a truly accurate figure would require a gpx reading for every step of the way.

3rd Edition. More content, training & pack guides avoid common mistakes, bed bugs etc
... and it can get to a point that quite frankly seems silly, like when the markers tell you the distance down to meters with their three digits behind the comma. 😆

What is the margin of error? Professionally I can tell you that there is some drift in road bed, and height change, but probably the biggest addition of mileage comes from my racing days-not hugging corners or picking the straightest line possible. 790km? 800km? A bit of a distance to walk, but compared to the total, not a big margin.

I’m a bit jaded on distance. It’s the job. 🙃

2015, S Jean to S de C via Route Napoleon using a specialist hiking G.P.S. unit, I recorded 832.78 km, albergue to albergue, I did take the side road to Saint Bol albergue which would be about 3 kms most would not cover and there would have been maybe 5 kms of marginal deviations in some towns looking for a food stop.
