I was planning to walk the Camino Frances to Finisterre the first two weeks in July, but after reviewing average temps, I'm having second thoughts. Has anyone done the Camino in July? Would the Camion Inglés be cooler, as it's closer to the coast?

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

Hi Susan

I walked last year in July, it was hot but manageable if you take the necessary precautions. Plenty of water , wear a hat and cover yourself. I also used a Euroschirm hiking brolly for shade too. It did get to 40 degrees plus on some days on the Meseta but we had no problems. Take it slow and plenty of breaks.

It would of course be cooler on the coastal Camino Norte though!

Buen Camino!

Thank you for your response. I considered the Camino Norte, but there are so many taxi transfers involved. I'm very committed to traveling on foot for the entire walk. Do you think the Camino Ingles would be cooler, since one starts out on the coast?

I cannot help with the camino inglés, not having ever done it.
I walked the camino francés twice, both times in July/August. One year was very hot (2012), there was a heatwave and we did have to start walking early as by 1pm it was (imo) unbearable. It wasn't so hot once in Galicia - quite cold in the mountains actually - and I remember feeling quite chilly on my way to Finisterre (once I had stopped walking).
The other year (2013) was fine, no extreme heat. Just perfect I thought.
There's no telling what this year will be like....
I hope other people will be along to help.
Whatever you choose, buen camino :)

Yes I think it would. And A nice walk I have heard too. Go for it! I would rather walk the Ingles than from Sarria (my opinion only)

Buen Camino!
