Does anyone have experience or knowledge of hiking in the east of Sicily or south Italy (Puglia)?

I will be „hiking“ somewhere between Lecce (arrival) and Catania (Sicily, departure) starting next week, have 18 days, and and trying to decide where to walk :)

Cicerone publishing have a guidebook 'Walking in Sicily' which may be of some assistance in helping you decide. The latest edition was released in 2017.
Gillian Price is the author & she has penned several Cicerone guides about walking/hiking/trekking in other regions of Italy as well.
Happy trails!

Danke schön!

I was planning to hike between Palermo and Agrigento (Magna Via Francigena) come October.
Sadly that plan has changed. But the 180 km route goes through some very interesting places

Hello @MacMac
One of the trails named for San Francesco passes through Puglia on it's way to Mont Sant Angelo: 'Con Ali ai piedi' (from Rieti to Mont Sant Angelo, 500 kms). The hiking is excellent and the scenery superb. When I walked the trail in 2013 signs were sketchy but I think things have improved since then.

I followed this trail and others on my way to Bari. I walked as far as able each day then set about finding somewhere to sleep. I didn't carry a phone or gps, just a guide book. Afterwards I put together a list of places where I found hospitality: Italy: Shelter 2013 (scroll down to Il Cammino di San Francesco: Cantalice – Mont Sant Angelo). 2013 may seem like a long time ago but most of the places I slept in had been welcoming pilgrims for centuries. They will probably be doing so for a few hundred more years :)

Other accommodation is listed here : Con le Ali ai piedi (2021)

Good morning. After having walked, 3 (Frances, VdlP, CP and Fisterra) Camino to Santiago, we thought that this year we should ‘experience’ another Way. So in a few short days we fly off to Italy...
