I can vouch for JW's guide. I used it on my recent Camino (just returned home to Sydney, Australi after walking four caminos) and the Ingles was my last one. The guide is very informative and spot on with the information. Thanks JW keep up the good work and keeping on walking. :)

I walked this route in early May. There is a new municipal albergue in Sergude, about 20km from the Church of Santiago in A Coruña with 30 beds. It is very modern and clean, and meals are available at a bar just down the road. It was very quiet as we were the only ones there that night.

We chose to stay in Meson do Vento instead of Bruma. Then went on to Sigüeiro where some of the listings in JW’s book were closed. We opted for the double room at the private Albergue O Fogar da Chisca. I wouldn’t recommend that room, but the other part of the albergue seemed to be under renovation so may be OK later in the season.

If you are walking from A Coruña to Santiago (approx. 75km) and want to be eligible for the Compostela (requirement of 100km) then you must prove that you have walked the extra 25km elsewhere. I would recommend that you get at least two stamps on your pilgrim credential at home. I used the return address stamp from a local cathedral, and a chuch 25km away. In North America – try churches, tourist or municipal offices, park offices – some will have stamps with a logo or crest, and most will have at least a return address stamp. Ask the clerk to date and initial each stamp – as is done in Spain. England and Ireland have some established pilgrim routes with stamps available at some of the churches along the way. Other European countries have established routes and infrastructure to provide the required stamps.

Thanks, Johnnie Walker. I used your Ingles guide on my smartphone May 17 - 23 and I am glad I had it. Good detail. Just a note -- I got lost approaching the industrial park outside Santiago and ended up walking parallel to the autoroute and the industrial park. Finally, I went into the industrial area and the third person directed me. I was about a quarter mile off the camino. Others said they were also confused because a lack of clear signage and a lot of recent cutting and clearing of trees.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
