Dawn of a new Day

Active Member
Ok, Dawn of a new day here. I had thought of staying in canada this year for holidays, however with airfares from VANCOUVER to london for $500, i am setting out in may for the camino Norte.

My flight gets into gatwick at 9:30 am, so deciding on which airport to fly into??? Recommendations. most depart at 12:15, which is not enough time to transfer. one option is from stanstead to bilboa. are there frequent buses to irun?? Sil what do you think??
appreciate your help,
i am hooked.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Hey Peregrina-Dawn, I think you are going to become a camino junkie!
I haven't done the Camino Norte but in her diary, Annette Raunsbjerg says that she flew from Stansted to Biarritz and got a train to Irun.

You can read her very entertaining diary online here:

I think its time you started a BLOG so that we can follow your walks.

Big hug,

camino junkie

hi Sil, thanks for passing on the website it looks great.!!! Well I am a camino junkie (and did i mention i walk for a living- being a postie!!!!)
It is confirmed, my flight $500 cdn vancouver to london. What an amazing deal!!!!
I arrive into gatwick at 9:30am, unfortunately the flights for biaritz leave once a day at 12:15. the only other option i can think of is easy jet to bilboa at 6pm, i will spend half day in bilboa then catch a bus to irun.
anyway know of the buses and how long it takes.Any other airlines??
thanks. yes a blog would be good, just a matter of figuring it out - how to create one. :D
anyone else doing the trail, i will be starting may 7!!!
One lady from victoria has already done it, she is great reference,
another will start the 19th may.

ivar, thanks for the website to post blogs. looks like i could be the first for the camino norte.
dg, i don't understand your message. Where is cdg or orly. i will check airfrance. last night booked my santiago-london, 10Euros. AMAZING.

Thanks Jane for clarifying the names.
Seems like alot of extra flying and expense flying into paris. i am considering booking ryan air from stanstead to santander then a 3 1/2 bus ride the following day to Irun. Woudl you believe 25 pounds!!!!!!
You brits (and europeans) are SO FORTUNATE to have so many options.

Bilbao is worth the visit in its own right and if you go there you might well want to spend longer than half a day. I went to the Guggenheim with a 'yeah, let's see what all the hype's about then' attitude and was seriously hooked. Had planned on half a day but went back the next morning having already spent a full day there.

And I think Ryanair flies into biarritz, with a train link to Irun of around an hour?

bilboa

hi jane.
i definately agree with your comments about bilboa. However my flight lands at 9:30 and the flight with ryan air to bilboa is 12:15. last year there was 2 flights, now there seems to be one. i was looking for alternatives so that i do not need to overnight in london. (much cheaper in spain) Easy jet flights into bilboa, but right now almost double the fare that of santander. i will start in irun and of course stop in bilboa.i am WATCHING the price of the flights.
