Hi, I am starting at Porto early in March and really looking forward to it! Unfortunately we won't meet, but I am sure there are others on their way to Santiago in spring. Anyone else going be on the Portugues in March?
I've just returned from Camino Portugues a few days ago. In Porto we stayed at the following Pension: http://www.pensaograndeoceano.com/ It was central, clean and a fair price. The route from Porto to Valenca at the border is EXTREMELY well marked. It seems that there were arrows every 20 meters or so. We skipped the first 10 km. out of POrto by taking the bus to Meia (#600 bus leaves from Aliados)--In Meia follow signs to zoo and at Blue tiled church near zoo you can find yellow arrows. We chose to not walk out of porto as we heard it was on busy roads the first 10 km. Have a great time.
Can anyone out there give me an idea what accomodation costs would be from Porto to Santiago? I am planning on going September 2010. In some preliminary reading, indications are that the 5 Euros per night thing we experinced on Camino Frances aren't as common here.
I walked from Porto to Santiago earlier this month:
Porto--3 of us in Pension 40 euros (13.30 each)
Rates--Albergue--donation
Barcelos--3 of us in Pension 40 euros (13.30 each)
Ponte de lima--youth hostel 10 euros per person
Valenca--Albergue --donation
Redondela--albergue -- 3euros
Pontevedra--albergue 3 euros
Padron--albergue 3 euros
Santiago--Pension 15 euros

My final question since I have asked sooo many.
Grabbing a light lunch that I can get on the go, hoping to grab it, and find a square or a bench to enjoy it, then get back to walking.
Not really...
