(2015) Camino
Two friends and I are planning to do the Camino Portuguese (the coastal route) in late august- beginning of September. This is the first doing the Camino and we are planning to start in Porto and keep on going though the coastal route because we intend to go swimming throughout the journey. I was wondering if anyone can give me some general tips or advice to keep in mind when doing the Camino Portuguese! Also do you think we will be able to find albergues at that time of year without pre-booking? We don't want to pre-book so as too be more flexible with pace and time.

Thanks in Advance!

Welcome on the forum Sara
Keep the ocean at your left.
There are some albergues at the Portuguese side , there are more at the Galician side .
Prebooking at the coastal is no need.
Keep an eye on our blog. We are starting next week. In english and dutch.

I am doing 146 km from Oia, Bainoa, Vigo, Redondela, Pontevedra, Caldas De Rei, Padron, Then into Santiago on the 6th September for 3 nights. I am travelling from Australia. who knows we may meet up, but going by distance you are way below me...

I'm on the same boat Sara, this is my first camino walk and forum, hope your trip went well...I'll be flying in to Lisbon spending 2 nights and taking a ride up to Porto. I'm starting my walk on Sept. 30, 2017 and hoping to be in Santiago in 8/10 days, my concern is if I need to pre-book hotels or auberges while i'm walking from Porto to Santiago. How was that experience for you? Weather, lodging...?
I've read through other forums that it's better to take the metro from Porto to Vilar do Pinheiro, however wouldn't I be missing out on the coastal way?
I'm so excited and I can't wait to get the pilgrim guide book to plan the best route from Portugal, so any suggestions are a blessing.
Bon Camino!
