Camino Primitivo or Camino del Norte

Hallo,



On 28 April I fly to Santander and will start then my Camino. I am still in doubt. Will I travel from Santander to Oviedo an start here the Primitivo or will I travel to Ribadesella and take a part of the del Norte.

Both routes seem very attractive to me. The mountains or the sea. Any one any idea?

Depends what you like and do you enjoy a bit of physical challenge. Expect about 500-800 meter climb every stage through the Primitivo. The Norte via the coast seems less of a challenge but should offer beautiful ocean views....

I started from Irun. Some of the best coastal part is between Bilbao (Pobena) and Ribadesella.
The stages from Ribadesella through Gijon (largest industrial town) and few stages after that is not that very appealing (mostly along roads and country). So, one idea would be walk from Pobena to Ribadesella and then skip the next few stages , depending on the time you have left. With a good guidebook, you can get a good feel for the stages ahead. I relied entirely on this Cierone northern guide. Buen Camino.

I had always the idea to walk to Santiago in one way without any breaks, so no bus transfers just walking. But your routes seems very appealing . I wil surely look into it, I have still have a few weeks before I leave. Its all about the experiance, letting things go, so mabye I should let my idea to walk in one straight way go
