Camino Puy

Hi there,
I’d like to walk a couple of days on the Camino Puy and would like to either leave my suitcase in Le Puy or have it transported.
Does anyone know what I can do?

As the Le Puy route runs through a vary lightly settled part of France, finding towns with rail connections that are only 1-2-3 days apart is quite difficult. A week, yes. Less than a week, you are looking at rail on one end and hitching a lift on the baggage transport (or a taxi, in a few towns) on the other end. There are transit connections at Le Puy, Figeac, Cahors, Moissac, Condom, Aire sur L'Ador and SJPP.

Baggage transport is available along the full length of the Le Puy route; make arrangements through your lodging host.

Going back about 3 years I used on multiple occasions the transport services of la Malle Postale from Le Puy to Figeac. They speak English and their service was excellent. They can now store your luggage and deliver it to you back in Le Puy or at the lodging where you terminate your hike. Or they can pick you up and transport you forward/backward along the route. Website is in French, but you can use Google to translate. Their coverage in the past terminated after Figeac - not sure if this has changed.

Advice from Kitsambler is excellent and should be kept in mind.

I am planning to walk for 10 days from Le Puy to Conques and will return to Le Puy at the end of the 10 days for the reasons @Kitsambler mentions about lack of transport options. I was going to store my suitcase using La Malle Postale but as I’m going to spend a night each side of the walk in the same B&B in Le Puy (the timings require me to) the B&B owner has agreed to hold my suitcase for a small fee. Depending on how your travel plans work out this might be an option too?

This usually works quite well. Book the same accommodation at the beginning and at the end, and ask them to store a bag for you in the meantime. The fact that you are staying both nights should not incur a cost.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I would like to walk a couple of days from Le Puy in early July. Do I need to make bookings or are there lots of options in small towns along the way?

My experience/opinion is purely based on research as I’m yet to do my trip, but most villages between Le Puy and Saugues don’t have tons of options, especially if you’re planning to stay in a gîte d’étape. It all depends on which village you stay in. This forum had been incredibly helpful for me in deciding where to stay so do read through older posts on accommodation. You could also contact the Le Puy tourist office https://www.lepuyenvelay-tourisme.fr/mon-sejour/trouver-un-hebergement/ as they will be able to advise.

If you’re not set on doing the Camino but the main motivation is a walking experience, I noticed on the above website that there is a mention of suggested itineraries for single day walking from Le Puy and taking the train back. This could be more practical if you’re not set on walking the Camino itself.

Finally, do read www.solocamino.com which @ChloeRose has written about her experience of walking the Le Puy route. I found it really useful and inspiring (and it led me to this forum).

I'm hoping I can walk from Le Puy to Figeac.If for some reason I cannot walk the distance in time...I need to get to Paris by a certain date... is there transportation along the Via Podiensis that I could take or could I take Bla Bla Car to get to Figeac? Thanks!
