Camino Sureste Guide Book

Time of past OR future Camino
FRuture: Camino Sureste (2022)
Dear Forum members,

I am currently making research about a possible camino for next September 2022 and I am also considering the Sureste as an option.

I made some reserach for Guide books in English and found the following two options:

1. The Pilgrims Guides: Camino del Sureste 2017 by Confraternity of St James Lewis Roxby Mairis and Tom Barton.
2. Pilgrims Guide - Camino del Sureste by Stanfords.

Unfortunately it seems that both editions are out of stock. I wonder if anyone has a PDF copy of any of these or any used editions for sale.

Moreoever I would appreciate any suggestions for any other sources or editions which may be available.

Meanwhile I thank you for any advce which you can give me as I feel a bit lost about the subject.

Apart from this route I also consider the Camino Levante but found no English guide books for this route.

Buen Camino and Happy New year,

Kind regards,
ray

I have found that, when researching the Really Obscure Routes which I like, there is rarely anything current available in English-- if anything. Publishers are not keen on producing material for a public of 32 oddballs. During the long polar nights which characterize Ottawa I compose my own, relying on the detailled accounts provided by Forum members, Spanish guides (when available) as guidebook Castilian is pretty basic and easily comprehended, extracts from local official websites which usually have a tourism page, wikipedia.es, and steady earth googling, which gives me a lot of useful accommodation info. Both ayuntamiento websites and wikipedia.es give the historical information which I love.

Buen Camino and Happy New year,

Hello Ray, I’m planning to walk the Sureste then onto the Sanabres early next year. I’ve just recently got the CSJ Guide from their London HQ and also the Spanish Guide from the Asociacion Amigos in Alicante. (www.encaminodesdealicante.org). The Sureste crosses paths with the Levante, and I have found some useful information for the shared stages in the German Levante Guide in the Outdoor series (Stefan Markschies).

Very true...I am fond of these unpopular routes and guide books are very scarce..

If the CSJ is sold out of their Sureste guide (though it appears online as in stock), I'd be happy to mail you my unused copy. Just pm me (and don't ask me how to accomplish that, as I don't know how).

Also, there is an English language guide to the Levante, a beautiful and very heavy spiral bound guide with excellent maps, published by the Amigos del Camino de Santiago de la Communidad Valenciana Association in 2009. ISBN: 978-84-96715-33-2. I still found it very useful when I walked the Levante in 2017. It won awards from the Spanish General Secretariat of Tourism.

Hi Ray

We walked the Sureste in December/January 2018/19. We used the Roxby Mairis guide in conjunction with other sources. One of the most useful tools was the map of the route downloaded via the Gaia app. The Roxby Mairis guide could be confusing in its directions but was mostly useful for accommodation options. The Gaia app was best for finding the route. We didn't carry the guide from the Valencia Association because of its weight but it looked very comprehensive and is probably a very good planning tool - from memory the information was accessible even to non-Spanish speakers or those with rudimentary Spanish.

It is an excellent route if you like it quiet and we highly recommend it. There are a number of alternatives you can add on to get to Santiago after you reach Benevente. (We went south on the Plata, then through Portugal, then joined the Sanabres in Spain again.)

Hopefully this is of some use to your planning. Pm if you would like to know anything else.

Cheers

Rireana
