Hi, is there anyone that can tell me if they experienced rain in May on the Camino Via de la plata? I pan to start on May 1st from Seville walking to Santiago - and I am deliberating as to whether or not I should pack my large poncho... Many thanks.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Hi... I walk in 2017 starting mid April. I am in Seville again now to start on Friday which is roughly the same dates for my 2nd via de la Plata. It is the perfect time weather wise. But at any time of year I would always take a poncho that goes over you and the pack. You only need 1 wet day and you need the right gear.

I’d pack a poncho (or an umbrella). You’d be unlucky to get rain in Andalucia or Extremadura at that time of year but once you reach Salamanca and until Santiago.... then it is a possibility! Better safe than sorry.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
It started raining on the day Ieft Seville (May 24) last year, and was still raining when I reached Santiago in early June. Some days the temperature did not exceed 13 deg. This was evidently unusual, but be prepared to bring your poncho or buy a bin liner.

Many thanks everyone for confirming I will indeed pack my poncho. In 2017 I walked the Camino Frances and only used it once for about two hours over the entire months and then last year on the Norte used it twice for two half days so I it is always about weighing up (mind the pun) - weight and space verses probability and usefulness - In any case - the votes say take it so there you have it! Thanks again - Hamish

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
You will be walking through Galicia. It is going to rain!

Joking apart, I set off from Sevilla in April (2017). Most of the time it was very hot and sunny, but interspersed with light spring rain and the occasional thunderstorm with a heavy downpour. I was really glad of my poncho!

You will love the VDLP!

Thanks Davey, Yeah - looking forward to it!! ;-)

I started to find the flies annoying on the few hot April days down south. Maybe not an issue for most, but I'd consider packing a head net if I was leaving in May.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
