Llansor Mill near Caerleon in Wales is to hold a Camino weekend from Friday October the 11th. This is for those thinking about doing it, and for those who have done it, but would like to share their experiences. Llansor Mill is an old stone mill near Caerleon in Wales in a beautiful valley, very reminiscent of Galicia. We will show 'The Way' movie, and do all or parts of a walk from Monmouth to Tintern, high above the Wye Valley. There will be talks about the Camino; the experience, and the practicalities of being a pilgrim. It will be as close as you get to the real thing without using Ryanair; but the pilgrim menus will be better. More information via llansor.org.
Hope you can make it!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Can you provide more details of this weekend please, accommodation, food, expected cost, how to get there by public transport etc. many thanks. Angela

I have no connection to this event but here are the details lifted from their website. Links to cost and transport below the quote.

THE CAMINO WEEKEND

The Camino. The Way. The way: by which, for a thousand years, tens of thousands of pilgrims –pelligrini – have made it across Europe toCompostella de Santiago.

To Santiago, where, perhaps, St James the Apostle lies, and beyond, to Finnesterre, the end of the earth, and back again.

The Road it has no beginning, The Road it has no End’. Or, in Spanish: ‘La ruta nos aportó otro paso natural’… a palindrome which means, ‘The path provides the natural next step.’

The Camino Frances: crossing the Pyrenees where Roland blew his horn; where Wellington pursued Napoleon; where Guernica affirmed the evil in mankind. The Camino Frances, with its line of cathedrals, including those at Burgos, Pamplona, Leon and at Logrono; where a cockerel is housed high above the nave, a descendant of those that came back to life, to prove a medieval pilgrim’s innocence. The Way, that was defended by Knights Templar from their mighty fortress of Ponferrado, where some say, the Grail still lies hidden.

1,000 years previously, the Romans paved miles of the route, to make the Via Trajana, but, legend has it, they were preceded by prehistoric man, following the path of the sun by day, and the Milky Way by night, out to the edge of the known world, passing through Atepaque, as do modern pilgrims, where traces of the oldest Europeans lie. The remains were thought to be from 100,000 years ago; but are now believed to be perhaps a million years old and belong to the ancestor of the Neanderthals.

This is in mysterious Basque country, where they speak a unique language. Beyond that, the Camino wends through the vineyards of La Rioja, where the pilgrims’ wayside fountains dispense red wine.

And all along the route, in a never ending column, come the pilgrims, wearing their scallop badges, laughing, crying, singing, suffering, wondering, having their lives changed, talking, meeting and re-meeting, story-telling; hurting, longing to get finally to the end, so that they can get ready to do it all over again.

The weekend will explore and sample something of The Camino. With talks, poetry, a goodly walk along our local pilgrim route, food, wine, companionship, firelight, and, we hope, yourself.

There is a tradition in the village of Penalt in Monmouthshire that it was a gathering point for pilgrims heading south to Bristol for embarcation there, or on the south coast. This is commemorated by a 20th C tapestry in the church, which 'is believed to' be dedicted to St James; although locally just known as the Old Church. It also has a window showing St James.... The route we will take is now part of the Cistercian Way. Some of it is delineated by ancient quartz boulders. Would be nice to revive this route, maybe with some yellow arrows...Next stop after Penalt is Trellech, once the biggest town in Wales...
Does anyone know anything more about it?

As we are hosting this event (from Llansor Mill near Caerleon NP18 1LS) we'd love to hear any response to the above question.
Do come and join us for the weekend of Fri Oct 11th. The weekend will feature a full day walk (or shorter option) on Saturday, plus plenty of Rioja round the log burner in the mill, with Camino travellers tales and experience to enthrall us.
