Cancelled Flights

Today, Vueling cancelled my flight from Zurich to Santiago (April 14th). My return flight is still valid, although worthless to me now.

I was offered a refund. Should this normally mean a cash refund? as they only offered vouchers.

Does anyone known the ‘rules’ yet, if any, as to what we are entitled to if they cancel flights (any airline). My whole journey/plans are void. Vouchers are valid until December 31st.

Any advice anyone? The vouchers are worthless to me. I have to re-plan for next year.

Hope you are all coping with the situation. Right now, in Tirol, we can't even go to the next village, town or city. Its indefinite. Total lock-down.

Good luck to you all.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
Each airline will have its own policies, and I suspect each jurisdiction will have slightly different rules about consumer protection here. I have been offered a voucher for the full price, or a cash refund if I pay a cancellation fee. I note that the cancellation fee was listed in the original booking conditions, but the airline has waived all the listed re-booking fees if one accepts the voucher. Clearly some movement in my case, and I am in the position where I will be able to use the vouchers.

Did you ticket the return flight separately? This could lead to the airline not picking up that you won't be making that, because these are two different entries in their booking systems, and they may not have cancelled the later flight yet.

You might find some relevant information and reports on this thread.

It is my observation that most of the major airlines are currently modifying their cancellation and change policies. My airline (not Vueling) is offering cash refund with a cancellation fee deducted, or a voucher for the full amount. The voucher must be used by the end of 2020.

Thanks for the great advice, dougfitz. I booked both directions at the same time, to return home at the end of may. Luck of the draw, I suppose.

Good link too. Thank you.

My Ryanair flight was cancelled for April 7th. I did not get an email, but found out by checking the website. The outbound flight was cancelled but the inbound flight on April 16th is not cancelled. I managed to cancel the bookings for the outbound leg and will try again when the inbound flight is cancelled. If anyone is getting an error on the Ryanair website saying the booking reference is incorrect, I recommend you persevere. Mine processed on the fourth consecutive attempt.

My flight to Zaragoza (23th of April) was cancelled by Wizzair last week. I was offered a 100% cash refund or 120% credit for future flights (in a 2-year period of time). I chose the latter.
