We are now in Carrion de los Condes, but we wanted to make a comment about the alburgue we stayed at in Castrojerez. We stayed at the Refugio Tradional de Castrojerez. It is a donativo albergue, and very minimal. No heat, no toilet seats and you may be wondering why we are writing about it. Well the two hospiteleros, Emillio and Jose are wonderful hosts. They made a primitive setting be a wonderful experience. After we checked in and claimed our beds, we were invited to a quemada later in the evening. That proved to be a neat expierence. Emillio made the quemada, did a prayer over it and then sang Amazing Grace. Truely a fun time. The next morning we were woken to chant music and had a decent breakfast of toast, fruit, coffee and tea. When we left, Emillio came out onto the street and sang Auld Lang Syne in Spanish!!

We walked to Fromista yesterday anb took a day off at a hostal with a private bath. This morning we were ready to go and we headed off to Carrion de Condes. Got here about 1330 and we are staying at the monestary of Santa Clara. Another minimal place but very clean. Next stop...who knows!

Some of my favorite memories are from places such as this one, donativo, spartan in furnishings, and filled with love and support.

Great post.
