Don´t really know if this should even be a topic on this forum. But I think that pilgrims heading for Barcelona or generally in the northern and eastern part of Spain should follow the news about the situation in catalonia. On Sunday October .1. the local goverment in Barcelona(Catalonia) have announced that there is going to be a referendum concerning secession from Spain - and there is likely going to be disturbances and in worst care riots - since the Spanish goverment have declared it illegal. In case of a yes - Catalonia is going to secede in a matter of a few days. News are reporting that more than 10000 extra police officers and paramilitary forces are going to be in the barcelona. Be careful out there.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

€149,-
Just so long as people realize that we are not going to smile kindly on debates over the referendum itself, I agree that pilgrims planning to travel to or through Cataluña should know about the referendum. Let's see if we can for once limit a thread like this to factual information that might have an impact on pilgrims' safety or travel plans.

Exactly - I was careful how I frased it. Just information - no debate.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Just try to avoid large and/or narrow public spaces throughout the coming weekend and especially on Sunday evening (7pm if I'm not mistaken) after the voting places will be closed (if not raided by Guardia Civil!).

We all hope everything will go without any clashes.

Buena suerte!

PS (Althought I would so much want to make a political comment on the situation (have the similar experience - look in my avatar and Google) I know it would be erased. Our mods are more vigilant than Guardia Civil :D)

Hi, Kinky, I saw that you had posted and have to admit my first thought was, oh no, here we go. :D Thanks for being considerate to the forum's rules. And btw, if anyone wants to discuss the political aspects of this with Kinky, the Private Conversation function is a perfect place to do that.

I am in Barcelona right now and things are relatively calm although many businesses are closed. Many Catalonian flags hanging in windows. We did see a large demonstration against Catalonian independence but it was mostly peaceful. The police presence is obvious and some of them have automatic weapons. No Spaniards have asked me my opinion on the trouble, but if they do I will tell them I don't have an opinion on the matter, which is true in my case.

I missed the events yesterday, I was working all day. Sat at home now in Exeter with my girlfriend who is Spanish, and is visibly shocked and upset at what happened yesterday. I hope at least one side can step back and make reconciliatory tones and take the heat out of the situation.
