We have done a part of the Camino, from Astorga to O'Cebreiro, in September 2018. We have the stamps from alberques and the length of our Camino should be enough for a certificate, we think. We were not able to reach Santiago de Compostela but coming April I will go on a guided tour to Santiago and other places i Galicia.
My question is: for getting the certificate in Santiago, do you need to have done your Camino in the same year or, in this case, could I go to the cathedral and show my Credencial and the get the certificate?
Hasta pronto

Brady is correct and to add, you do not have to do this is the same year. The distance beyond 100 KM's is important if you wish to purchase a distance certificate and have it reflect more than 100 KM's. Buen Camino to you.

I am planning to walk the last stages of the Camino Primitivo in late September, but will detour off Camino via O Pena and rejoin the Frances at Lavacolla. I see in the above that our last 100 km needs to be on a recognised Camino route. Should I re-route to join the whole Primitivo route via Arzua and Melide, in order to qualify for a Compostela?

That is the first time that phrase has occurred, so I would not worry about it. Almost no one exactly follows the last part of the Ingles, Portugues, or Sanabres into Santiago because the markings pretty much disappear. Pilgrims just follow the streets toward the city center! Buen camino.:)
