Cheap flights out of Santiago?

My mother said that when she went she was able to find cheap flights out of Santiago after she finished her Camino. A sort of Pilgrims rate. I need to get back to switzerland, and idea if this is still an option? I'd like the flexibility of being able to book when I get there and not trying to make it by a date. Thanks!

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!
Hi, your first post - welcome!

What year did your mother walk the camino?

I have never heard of a pilgrim rate for flights out of Santiago.
I would also be pleased to know of any!

Many years ago there was a story that Iberia would give a special rate for those who could produce a Compostela. I don't know if it was true, but these days I think that Ryanair et al have cornered the market in cheap flights.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I do not think there are special pilgrim rates any more. The market is very competitive these days with many more operators and flights. As a result the cost of flying has dropped quite dramatically - especially if you can travel just with cabin baggage. Most airlines no longer have fixed fares for routes anyway and the price will vary from flight to flight according to demand. A flight search website like Kayak (my personal favourite) or Skyscanner will show lots of different options. One thing I would suggest: both A Coruna and Vigo airports are within easy and quick access from Santiago and you may well find flights that are cheaper and/or more convenient from either of those. A couple of days ago I flew to London from A Coruna and by so doing saved myself a substantial sum, flew at a more convenient time and landed at the best possible airport for my journey.

I've never heard about pilgrim fare for the flights. There is a website that shows all or most budget airlines, it helped me to book my Camino spontaneously and not to waste time searching for connections. And saved money of course. Was the best last year's find. Have a look at www.azair.eu

I think brierley mentioned in his 2003 guidebook that if you show up with your compostela at the sdc airport, you could get a discount on the flight out. but with the rising numbers of pilgrims and the dropping of the air fares, that is no longer the case.
