Hi everyone, I search and I search and I search....:) If you walked el Camino de Norte from Irun to Santiago from early April what low temperature did you encounter? I'm trying to avoid packing based solo in the averages if you could help I really appreciate. Yes I know I could always mail stuff back but thats is another post :)

Zzotte you might find this link to the AE site useful http://www.aemet.es/es/serviciosclimaticos/datosclimatologicos/valoresclimatologicos. 30 years of averages for all the provinces along the Norte. But beware, what happened for the last thirty years is still only an indicator of what might happen next. AE also publish the extremes which in some ways give a better insight into what could happen.

Edit: the link takes you to a map. Click on the province you are interested in for further data.

I walked the Norte in 2014 from April 1-29. I had no rain until I reached Galacia and then it rained almost everyday. My experience, more than likely, will vary from others.

That said, I never wore more than a t-shirt, fleece and my rain gear. I was never cold. My last day from Salcedo to Santiago it rained the entire day. The weather was never colder than 4C or 40F and warmest was around 24C or 75F. Those are approximate numbers.

This is a great walk.

Ultreya,
Joe

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Thank you Tincatinker and also JP, actually your experience is very much in tune with Tincatinker web link.

We walked a month after your timetable , never cold even on the rainy days.
Galicia will give you the head ache at the end......as always.
Have a great walk,
Buen Camino,

I am from the warmer parts of Australia therefore feel the cold. I walked the Camino Frances in April-May 2014 and wore a light singlet/vest followed by long sleeved shirt then light fleece and finally all-purpose/rain jacket and long trousers. The coldest mornings, when there was frost next to the pathways saw me thus clothed with my jacket hood pulled up over my head. I was warm everywhere except my hands. Walking with poles does not allow hands in pockets to keep warm. Next time I will pack gloves.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
Thanks Meg, details like that really helps, I walk hot but getting started its the issue :)

I use Alltrails a lot here in the US, in Iceland, on the Via Podiensis and a bit on the CF. Will it be useful on the Norte? For example, people here say the "warm up" from Biarritz to Irun (or...
Last May I walked the first part of the Norte in the opposite direction, from Santander to Irun. Since I only had two weeks and couldn't reach Santiago anyway, I wanted to swim against the tide...
Tomorrow I fly to Bilbao to start my 5th stint on the Camino. I did the Frances in three parts (2016, 2017 and 2022). Last year I did the Portuguese from Porto. I did the first 200 km of the...
I thought I had this all figured out, but I have ended up with 2 train tickets from San Sebastian (I don't even know if it's the airport or the town) to Irun, instead of ONE that goes all the way...
