I am planning to walk from Porto to Santiago next July 2017. My question is my husband will be travelling with me but will not be walking. Can someeone please advise if he will be able to use ablbergues or will we need to look for alternative accomodation.

No, can't use municipal albergues. Don't let that put you off.
Private albergues may be an option.
