Col du Somport in October?

We have previously walked the Camino Frances but each year we close our gîte on the GR 65 for 3-4 days in August to recharge our batteries before the busy month of September. We usually spend these days camping at Urdos & this has re-ignited my husband's desire to cross the Pyrenees by the Arles Route over the Col du Somport. Is this route passable in mid- October? I know there is someone out there who will know!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

I walked from Toulouse to Sarrance in October, I stopped there for 2 reasons; firstly I had plantar fasciitis but despite that I would have stopped because of the weather. The paths were rivers and half the road down from Canfranc got washed away, it was all too much for me but I suspect that more intrepid walkers continued. That was just that particular year, there was no snow, I reckon it is just a question of luck, go for it but keep an eye on the weather forecasts!
Good luck

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

I crossed the Col du Somport end of november last year...
It was one of the most gorgeous days of my entire life!

The sun was up, and also was the moon! Snow in the peaks above but not even close to the paths... It was a lovely, beautiful journey that day!

I guess in october, as mentioned already by @falcon269 , you could expect some rain, and a possible cold weather if you're coming from Somport or from even further above.

I've crossed over Col du Somport three different times in the month of October, 2010, 2013, and 2016 and never had any snow. It was raining but warm in 2010 and warm and sunny in 2013 and 2016. On a clear day the views are stunning and the walk down to Jaca is one of my favorite stretches. Nice towns, good footpaths and very quiet.

This is a general question for my curiosity. It probably should be posted in “Equipment etc” but would probably get a lot of Spain replies. I’m not bringing my emergency beacon but I did read on...
