I'm in Santiago (yay!). But I have a cold and am congested and am worried about my ears hurting on the flight back home. Can I buy a decongestant here? Something like DayQuil? I went to a farmacia when my throat hurt a few days ago and ended up buying some honey tablets that cost me 9 euros. They are okay but o really just wanted Ricola. What should I ask for?

Ricola is available at any of the bigger supermercados.

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

€83,-
Do I get that at a farmacia?
Yes. They may have different varieties. Some are for the head cold symptoms. Some are for the chest congestion. All are good but if you can find the COMPOUND, it is best.

It's like a fizzy tablet. You drop it into about 1/4 cup of water. The others are powders you put in water and drink.

Not sure if exactly what you're after, but Algidol is a life-saver, and usually available over the counter at any Farmacia

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
Transport luggage-passengers.
From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles

Sudafed1/2 hour before landing. Works like a charm

Fluimicil COMPOUND is a miracle drug. I stock up each year.

I have a note that I bought Fluimucal for a cold on a prior Camino and it was great. Do you think this is the same product? maybe I misspelled it.

Yes. Probably. It's hard to find the compound. I am going on a search tomorrow in Pamplona.

I would suggest paracetamol, ibuprofen or aspirin. Most of cold medicines don't really work for virus, just for symptoms, and for this are better and cheaper the anti-inflammatories.

Anyway, you can find a lot of medicines such as Fluimucil, Frenadol, Gelocatil, Bisolgrip... But if you want to save some money ask for generic drugs.

The right name in Spain is Fluimucil Complex.

Fluimucil compound is less than €8 for enough to get you through the flu. It's like a miracle drug for me. So much so that I stock up I it every year and take it home for my elderly mother, who swears by it, and my children. I can take it and feel human. It clears my sinuses and my chest. None of those other medicines mentioned have worked for me.

Excuse me Annie, i didn't explain very well.

I didn't name those medicines as a Fluimucil´s alternative (in fact, Fluimucil is mentioned aswell). I was just listing some cold and/or flu medicines one can find in Spain. There are lots of them.

On the other hand, i would never say not to take this or that drug; if it works for you, go ahead. But cold's common symptoms are headache, sore throat, nasal congestion, general body upset and sometimes a little fever. For the first two the best is anti-inflammatory and for the other symptoms, rest, water and a good nourishment, and let our body work.

I understand sometimes we don't have time and/or patience to bear the consecuences of a cold, and sometimes our body is not strong enough to fight, that's why i don't criticize those who take drugs.

Just made a suggestion.

By last, acetylcysteine ( Fluimucil's active principle) can be found by less than 4€. And it's exactly the same formula.

Ideal pocket guides for during & after your Camino. Each weighs only 1.4 oz (40g)!

I know. ☺️

I was just 'splainin'

Everyone has what works for them.

I'm sorta bummed because I'm having trouble finding mine this year.
Hopefully I won't need it!
