Connection from Leon

Hello,

Trying to decide my route: el-camino-frances/topic8638.html

I only have a limited amount of time, and am thinking of walking from Leon onwards only. However, due to the crowds of the new year, am also considering walking the Northern Route instead.

Would love some advice on connections from Leon - to Gijon and what the walk from Gijon to Santiago de Compostela is like.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
You could walk the el Salvador from Leon to Oviedo and then on the Primitivo - Original Route - to Santiago.

Camino del Salvador (120kms - León to Oviedo) http://www.caminosantiagoastur.com/
http://www.csj.org.uk/guides-online.htm - download a guide.
Camino Primitivo (369 Kms -Oviedo to Santiago) http://www.amigosdelcamino.com http://www.caminotineo.com

But, I would suggest that when you reach Lugo you take a bus or train to el Ferrol and walk the Camino Ingles to Santiago. http://www.csj.org.uk/guides-online.htm - download a guide.

That way you avoid the last 100km on the Camino Frances.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! I'm a bit limited for time as well - 14 days is probably what I'm looking at allocating for the walk. Do you think there is enough time to do all this?

Just bought a sleeping bag (willl be used for rest of trip as well) and a little knife today! Excited.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

You could get a bus to Oviedo and walk to Santiago from there - 369km ÷ 14 = 26km per day.

Or,
Day 1: get a bus to Oviedo
Day 2 - 8: Walk from Oviedo to Lugo - ± 150km in 7 days
Day 9: Get a bus to el Ferrol
Day 9 - 13: Walk ± 112km to Santiago from there in 4 days
Day 14 - Free in Santiago
