Cost of Treking Poles in SJPdP?

Trying to decide to check my bag with Poles or just carry on and grab some Poles when I get to Europe.

My Poles are some decent carbon fiber.

I understand it will cost about $25 usd to check my bags in each directions. Can I get a pair of aluminum Poles SJPdP in the $50 range?

I believe you should be able to. The set I bought cost 22 euro the pair, I think. Just your standard aluminium collapsible variety. Worked quite adequately for me.

No problem. There are basic poles which are adjustable via the twist lock method, which will likely cost even less than the shipping cost.

I paid 30 euros for mine in 2016 and was very happy with them.

Thanks all for the tips. Looks like I'll leave my good poles home, carry on my bag and get some Poles when I get to Europe. I do find using poles to be very helpful with my bad knee and back.

Two questions;

1) Can you get along with one pole or stick?

2) Is it possible to make it past Roncesvalles with Bizkarret, just before Zubiri without pole assistance?

The reason for these questions is that there is a gentleman who provides walking sticks and instructions, if needed, at no charge. He refuses even a donation and has apparently given out many thousands of walking sticks over the years. I am told he is over 80, himself. He was featured on the BBC Camino special last week.

Believe me, you'll be thankful to have them beyond the Pyrenees; their are a lot of elevation gains and losses that are quite steep in places.

And I just became eligible for Medicare So, yeah, I'm definitely not where I used to be . But at least we're not rusting away wishing for adventure.

Thanks for the tip. I do remember the grade changes from last time, but the worse for me was week one. I could have tossed the poles aside during week 2. Kept them and did find them helpful, especially after I broke my foot. So, I'm a fan of Treking Poles.

I bought aluminum poles in SJPdP at a touristy sporting good shop on the main drag for $16/each. I saw the same exact ones when I got to Viana for half the price I'd paid. I was somewhat annoyed that I didn't get a good deal, but I would not have wanted to wait that long anyway, so can't really complain.
