Hi.
im walking the camino end of may this year with my girlfriend. Obviously we will be looking and doing it for as cheap as possible with depriving ourselves either. How much would it cost per day for both of us? We will be using the hostels.

The 9th edition the Lightfoot Guide will let you complete the journey your way.
Pilgrims albergues cost from Donativo (which doesn't mean free!!!) to around 12 Euro, the private ones. A good average would be 8 Euro / night / person.
If you never eat out, buy your food in shops and prepare it yourself and resist all Cafe con Leche tempations, you can get by with 10 Euro for simple food for both of you per day, but 15 Euro might be more realistic.
Additional costs: entrance fees to museums, churches ect, that depends entirely on your interests.

So for the both of you, between 26 Euro (very simple lifestyle!) and 35 Euro (includes the occasional treat) would be good starting point for budgeting. Buen Camino! SY

Welcome to the forum, Eric. Presumably, you meant to say "WITHOUT depriving...." which causes me to mention, that on the camino (except for the albergues of course), you generally pay for a room, not the number of persons. This means that the two of you can share a room in a hostel, pension, even 3-star hotel for as little as 25 up to 50 Euros, in total. And this includes a private shower and often breakfast too. Worth your while to check it out, as some Albergues cost 10 to 12 Euros per person and at far less comfort.

(As a singular peregrino, I've tried a few times to convince pretty co-pilgrims of the idea....unfortunately at no avail;))
