Costco duvets are back, and improved

Ok, improved is a bit of an exageration, but they are 3 inches wider putting them at 60x70. Loft is 700.

Also, they are now rebranded as an Eddie Bauer product. This may mean they will be sold elsewhere than Costco?

Colours are dark grey, light grey, navy and burgandy.

Still as slippery.

Down bag (90/10 duvet) of 700 fills with 180 g (6.34 ounces) of filling. Mummy-shaped structure, ideal when you are looking for lightness with great heating performance.

I am going to have to check those out. Do you remember, or does the ad say, how much they weigh?

My other question is are they as warm as a fleece bag liner. The liner is 20 deg of warming. Paired with my silk sheet I get a total of 30 deg of warm over the air temp.

They have a 700 loft. As for weight, my kitchen digitsl scale says 464 grams, including its bag. Add a few grams for the extra 3 inches.

I don't know how many extra degrees it gives, but I would bring it from spring into early November on the Frances, with liner.

I'm not familiar with this way of rating sleeping bags or fabrics. How does it work?
The silk sheet used inside a regular bag adds 10 deg F to the rating of the bag. The fleece adds 20 deg F. So 30 deg F over room temp is how I am guessing. I slept in it at my sister's, with the exterior doors open and a low of 50F, was warm all night. woke up in the morning half covered and was warm. It was too hot to sleep under the fleece at 65F.

I used it to wrap myself in when I went outside in the early morning to have coffee. It kept me warm.

I've been looking for one of those down throws . . . Did you happen to see them in the Vancouver Costco? Thanks!

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.

Montreal, yesterday. I'm sure they will arrive to all stores across the country soon.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Yes, a friend of mine who lives in Vancouver picked one up for me this morning.✅ Same price, $25.99. I think it will be a good alternative to my somewhat claustrophobic sleeping bag.

I ordered from Costco.com. I think they're called the Double Diamond down throw. $40 US for 2.

I just bought one of the new bags for a fellow forum member and weighed it. It is 424 grams, so a bit lighter than the original Double Black Diamond, but more compactable.

View attachment 35469 They are available in the Vancouver Costco too!
Mine of a year and a half ago came with a bag that compressed it quite a bit. Kept me snugly on cold nights, but yes it was awfully slippery. Next Camino I will safety pin it to the mattress.

These also come with the bag. In fact the back is smaller, so less bulk in the backpack.

Exciting news for Aussies. I found them in Costco at Crosslands yesterday. Hidden in an aisle with a few other camping things. I'd looked for them before in the sheets/blankets/rugs/throws section and not found them. They are $Aus29.

Yes, they are sold with the camping/outdoor sports aisle.

I bought one at Bed Bath and Beyond. Have you added anything at the bottom to make an envelope for your feet? A strip of Velcro, a zipper? Thanks

Can't find the new ones in Costco (Austin). I'll have to try BB&B.

I bought mine on line when my local store, (South Carolina, USA) didn't have them in stock. And as far as it being 'slippery' - I folded mine in half, put it inside of my silk liner and pinned the bottom corners from the outside. This way I could slip in between the two layers or under both, depending on the temperature. By the end of my Camino, May '17, it was too warm and I only needed the silk liner.

Bought mine from eBay in the UK - still labelled Costco though.
EBay USA have Eddie Bauer ones for $25.

Never thought of doing it that way - time for an experiment!

I brought one along on the Primitivo in July and loved it. It weighed 8 oz fewer than my sleeping bag, took way less room in my bag, and was really warm. It's the way I go from now on.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
Now how much does it weight and how tiny can it be packed?
They weigh about 15 ounces. If you want to get the weight down you can cut it approximately in half, and bind the cut edge. Then you can tuck it inside a silk liner for extra warmth. If it's hot, and the plastic covered mattress is sticky it's nice to put under the silk liner.

I cut the costco blanket to the size of the liner and stitched it to one side. If it's cold I sleep under the down side and if it is warm I sleep in the liner only side on top of the down side. Total weight is around 1 lb. One of my favorite Camino modifications.

That is the very thing I was given as a gift at Christmas. I had it stitched almost completely up the edges and made into a permanent, lightweight sleeping bag. No field tests on a Camino with it yet, but I did test it out on a couple of chilly nights indoors and it seems to be very warm for its weight. It packs down very small and is very compressible.
