This thread will be reserved for important announcements, advisories and information about the coronavirus COVID-19 and the Camino.

This will be a closed thread that can be updated only by moderators, who will also bump it periodically so that it stays near the top. We are locking the thread only to keep it uncluttered, and help members easily connect with up-to-date information at other sites. EDITED: If you have suggestions for useful links, please click "Report" on this post, and then include the link you suggest.

Let's see if this is a more efficient and effective way to keep forum members up-to-date. If it doesn't work, we'll try something else! Who knows what tomorrow will bring?! 🤣 :)

NOTE: All forum members and pilgrims should rely first on information provided by their own governments and health authorities. Pilgrims needing help to return home from the Camino should contact their embassy or consulate and the airlines.

Too many and too often!
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?! 🤣
Well - one thing we know that it brings will be a national "State of Alarm" across Spain which gives the government the authority to act swiftly to impose a series of emergency measures if deemed necessary. So a situation already fast moving and fluid may change even more rapidly: "The measures that are included under a state of alarm in Spain include: limiting the circulation or the presence of persons or vehicles at certain times and in certain places; the temporary requisition of any kind of asset; the intervention of, and transitory occupation of, industries, factories, workshops, operations or commercial premises of any kind, with the exception of private households; the limiting or rationing of the use of services or the consumption of essential items; and the issuing of necessary orders in order to ensure supply to markets and the functioning of services in production centers for essential products. "

Forum moderators recommend (March 12, 2020) that people not travel to Spain to walk the camino under the current circumstances. See the forum thread here.

Pilgrim Office and cathedral in Santiago are closed (March 13, 2020) to visitors until further notice. During the next few days, pilgrims can deposit their credentials in the Pilgrim Reception mailbox, and the Compostela will be sent by mail to the address indicates. For the latest updates on this, see the Catedral de Santiago Facebook page.

Pilgrim House in Santiago is closed until further notice. See the forum thread here.

IATA travel advisories can be viewed here.

Albergue closures are listed on this forum thread and on the website of Egeria House (run by @SYates ). This information can change very quickly so everyone must verify it for their own use! UPDATE 2020-03-14: @SYates is no longer updating that list, because a state of emergency has been declared and the albergues in Spain are mostly closed.

[As a note, Facebook pages can quickly be updated by someone without website skills, so sometimes the information is more up-to-date than the official websites.]

Ferry travel: @Tia Valeria has sent me some links with information for anyone trying to get home from Spain to UK on the ferry.

Thanks to members for thinking of others, and hoping for safe travels for everyone.
