Hi

I have read that it is possible to have your credential stamped at the Cathedral de Notre Dam in Paris - but I was wondering if you can get the credential itself from Cathedral? - or just have your credential (already obtained) stamped here?

Hi Sus, you can obtain your Credential at the Pilgrim Office in the next side street next to the Cathedral .
10 , Rue de Cloitre , Paris .
And you can get a stamp in the Cathedral .

Wish you a wonderful time and a Buen Camino,Peter.

It's not really a pilgrim office next to Notre Dame, it's a general office for the Diocese of Paris -- most likely they're simply offering some services to Compostela pilgrims due to demand (you certainly couldn't get the normal credencial there back in 1994, so I had to ask a priest there to sign and stamp my home-made one), but it's certainly not a principal activity, so that whilst you could certainly get a stamp there on your credencial, there's no real guarantee they'll have blank ones available. Certainly worth trying of course !!

The actual Paris pilgrim's office (Compostela 2000 organisation) is at 11 rue Hermel in the 18th arrondissement (downhill from the northern side of Sacré Coeur/Montmartre, and BTW a very good area to do any last minute shopping for necessaries or knick-knacks, even foodstuffs for the backpack), open Mon-Fri 10-12 AM and 2-6 PM plus some saturdays to 5 PM -- http://www.compostelle2000.org

From airports to SJPP
Luggage from SJPP to Roncevalles
Avoid the lon long line of tourists, go straight to one of the security people and show your credential, you will have priority and receive the stamp in in the cathedral office inside down back. SINCE you are in Paris, do also visit the Tour Saint Jacques!!! A tower in a park much favored these days by Muslim families. Around the back in a kiosk they will stamp your credential as well! Should not be missed!
