Credential / Pilgrim passport update

Hi all,

I stopped by the pilgrims office today and asked them about the deal with the new official pilgrim passports. Here is what they told me.

1. For all pilgrims outside of Spain, everything continues as before nothing new. (You get your pilgrims passport from "local" association). This is true before and after 2010 (holy year).

2. For pilgrims living in Spain. The new "official" pilgrims passports will be sent out from Santiago (forgot to ask about details related to this). This new passport is required by all pilgrims living in Spain starting 2010, but the passport is available to be used for those that want before 2010 (but not required).

The reason for all this is that in Spain, it seems like there are "hundreds" of different entities issuing these pilgrims passports and they are just trying to consolidate all this.

On another note, the weather in Santiago the last 10 days has been spring-like, with max temperatures of towards 23c in the shade. Mornings are cold though (1-2c). This Sunday rain in the forecast.

Greetings from Santiago,
Ivar

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

€46,-
thank you for clarifying that, Ivar. There's one further possibility: the numerous people who live outside Spain but want to pick up a credencial in Spain. Plenty of countries don't have a local association.

Thanks Ivar. One less worry, and for some reason that I don't understand it is really important to me to use my Canadian Credential. National Pride I guess. Counting the days now. I fly to Paris on April 1st.

We are only just going to miss each other: I fly into Paris on April 8th! All the best with your preparations.

Another question: I have a credential for Via de la Plata from the Pilgrim Assosiation in Sevilla. I used it from Sevilla to Caceres in 2006, will bring it with me further to Zamora this year in April, and hope to use it from Zamora to Santiago, hopefully in spring 2009. But I have been wondering if I can still use it. Its very nice and special. Can I use it since I have got it in Spain, or should I get a new one - and not so nice and special? What Ivar is telling is that I can use it since I reach Santiago before 2010?

Hi Margaret and Arn:

You never know we might meet up yet. I don't actually start walking until April 4th or 5th and right now I'm not certain where that location will be. Somewhere in southern France, I will be joining a friend who lives in France and she has been walking in stages for a year now, she started in Veseley, I will be joining her wherever she happens to be at that time. So starting at different locations on different dates who knows, I will keep looking for your names in the registry books.
