Crowds

Hi all

Just wondering how crowded we can expect the road from Sarria to Santiago will be at the beginning of July? I know the refugios will be crowded as it is the last leg of the trip but what about crowds on the road? Has it become so crowded that the spirit of the walk is jeopardized?

BTW There is wonderful CD by Oliver Schroer http://www.oliverschroer.com/ based on a 2004 Camino walk. Enjoy!

Hola Suzanne,
I walked the camino in 2004 and did the Sarria to Santiago bit from about the middle of June. 2004 was a Holy Year and there were prophesies of doom regarding refuges and gloom about crowds. The roads were never over crowded (nothing like they were in the medieval holy years) and we got a bed at every refuge.
You will meet a lot of wonderful people - nervous and aprehensive just like you. Emrace them as being a part of the pilgrimage experience.

Hello Suzanne,

In the beginning of July things started to pick-up this year, but you can always sill find your "space" along the Camino. If you can stagger your stages and do not stay in the major towns (Portomarin, Palas de Rei, Melide, Arzua and Arca) you will also avoid some of the crowds.

On a last note, the mix of people - different ages, sex, ethnicities, religions, socio-economic levels, professions, etc. - - and how they all get along on the Camino is something that makes the Camino so special.

Good luck and Buen Camino!

Has anybody recently volunteered at the Pilgrim office for the 15 day timeframe? Where did you stay in Santiago?
For those who are in Santiago 🙏🏻
