Sil, thank you for this suggestion! I think it would be wonderful to walk from Seville to Salamanca, then take a boat from Salamanca to Porto on the Douro River! This is a very exciting option. Unfortunately, all I can find are cruises (expensive) from Porto/Salamanca/Porto.

Does anyone know if you can simply hire a boat or if there are regular boats that travel the river from Salamanca to Porto, where one could purchase passage?
