If you walk from Porto cathedral you will have the option on the inland route of taking 2 ways to Villarinho, one is longer by about 3km and takes you down alongside busy dual carriageways, the other one takes you down cobbled roads. The shorter one has one drawback you have to cross the central reservation of a dual carriageway, it is not a quiet dual carriageway but a busy one. You can walk alongside the dual carriageway in one direction of 1/2 km to your right where there is supposed to be a crossing, but note, there is no hard shoulder and the traffic is rushing up behind you, i gave up after 20 meters. If you go back to the starting point your sight line to your right is about 150 meters and to your left about 40 meters. You have to when everything is quite get to the central reservation 5-7 meters, climb over it, and then make the rest of the 5-7 meters. You only need 4 requirements to get across safely 1) you have to be Physically Fit 2) Can not not be bothered too walk back to the junction point where the other route branches off 3) Stupid 4) Lucky. I ticked all 4 boxes that day.
