Cycling Camino San juan de la peña mid Jan 2016
cycling Camino del norte "still researching winter conditions"
hello fellow pilgrims!
its not a while ago Ive cycled the CF starting from pamplona!
and Im willing to cycle another route before getting stuck in the city
now living in Barcelona Id want to cycle Camino san juan de la peña (Barcelona-Santa Cilia de la Jaca)
so I will be close enough to Irun "the start of the camino del norte" so Id go on.
Ive got my winter gears, and the awareness of a lonely traveler.
now my main question, how bad could the weather get?
Ill be mainly camping and it is my first time to camp in Spain. anything to be worried about?

I think that the Sierra de Loarre could be difficult in the winter and you should check with locals before you try it-- between Sarsamarcuello and Santa Maria de l'Estacion there are no houses or people at all and in two traverses I only saw one vehicle, so if you ran into diffculty, it could be days before you could signal for help. As well, the stage between Santa Maria de l'Estacion and Ena could not be easily done by a mountain bike-- it is a very uneven path. You might be better off sticking to the westward turnoff from the A-1205 northbound. But others might have more up to date information than I do.

I thank you very much for your info,
the weather actually is my biggest concern, I think I am prepared for solitude, that is the main purpose.
Ive got a road bike, I make turns and follow paved roads to avoid the dirt as I did before.
Ive checked also albergues in case, most are open all year. or so they say.

warm regards!

The road from Sarsmarcuello to Santa Maria de la Pena (not Estaction--- I made a mistake) is gravel and, if you have good tires, a touring bicycle might make it. But I would not think of it in the winter without seeking the advice of locals.
