Deactivating 'download' icon

Hello Ivar

Is it possible to have an option to deactivate the ' download' icon? It disturbs me that it now appears above all the photos which I have posted on the forum.

Is it possible for Rule 12 to appear first when anyone clicks on the 'download' icon?

Regards
Lovingkindness

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
I am not sure what you mean... the download icon should only appear in the resource section where you can download pdf's and other documents... the photo section should not have a download button.

Talking about the photo section, there is another thing that I find a bit strange: When you want to delete one of your own photos, you are asked to provide a reason for deleting. I wonder why; is anybody monitoring the reasons given, are they used for any purpose? No big deal, just a bit strange.

Ideal sleeping bag liner whether we want to add a thermal plus to our bag, or if we want to use it alone to sleep in shelters or hostels. Thanks to its mummy shape, it adapts perfectly to our body.

It’s the same when one deletes any post - I think is’s just a ‘feature’ of the forum software

Hello Ivar

I am writing about my photos in various conversations eg 'Where did you walk locally today?'. I am not writing about the Resource pdf download icon.

When I click to view the photos which I and others have posted in this conversation, a download symbol appears along the top. Other symbols appear too.

The one from Galicia (the round) and the one from Castilla & Leon. Individually numbered and made by the same people that make the ones you see on your walk.
First the bad news.

Deactivating the Download button will not prevent the images from being downloadable. It will disguise that fact but I know of several other ways it can be done. Also I think the code that handles the display is a third party add-on to the software that Ivar bought and not under control of either them or Ivar.

Now the good news.

For years identifying information contained in the photos have been stripped out upon receipt. This includes location information and even appears to also include the date and time that the photo was taken.

I was made aware of the problem years ago when I downloaded a familiar looking photo of Pamplona that I hoped would show me its location. Turned out the photographer had edited the photo and the software inserted his home as the location instead. I notified him of the situation. I can't remember if I notified Ivar too but the information stripping appears to be happening for years.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
The download button has been there as long as I have been using the forum. It's not new.
Hello @trecile
For the first 13 years on the Forum I used computers wherever I could find one. I don't recall the download symbol ever appearing above photos.

Using a smartphone is a relatively new experience for me. I find it complicated. I prefer using a computer but don't have access to one here, where I am for the moment...

No, it's not a browser feature. If it were it would be there on every website that I use. It's a forum software feature.
OK I've just checked on another forum that uses the same software.

For boring reasons that bore even me I don't think I'm wrong per se, but you are still completely right. It's this forum software.

I think there are a few things worth considering:
- as others have said, removing the button won't keep people from taking the photos. It is as easy as right-clicking them and choosing "save image" from the pop-up that appears
- this forum and all the content on it is on the public Internet. Content within is findable by Google. Nothing is "just among us" except private messages. That's why the moderators remove personal information (like personal phone numbers and email addresses) from posts. Don't post any photos here you don't want available to anyone in the world. That is also why there are rules about posting identifiable photos without permission of the people in them.
- you retain copyright of photos you take. The rules of the forum remind folk of that. But with or without the button, we really have no way to enforce or make sure that no one uses the photos without your permission. It is always going to be a risk. If you aren't comfortable with that risk, don't put your photos on the Internet.

...and ship it to Santiago for storage. You pick it up once in Santiago. Service offered by Casa Ivar (we use DHL for transportation).
