Distance certificate

Time of past OR future Camino
Camino Frances April 2020
I would like to get a distance certificate along with my Compostela when I finish the Camino. Last year I walked from SJPP to Los Arcos. I had to cut my Camino short due to Covid. This year I am starting in Pamplona. When I get to Santiago will I be able to get a distance certificate for 800km? Or only the distance from Pamplona to Santiago de Compostela?

TIA

You should be able to get the distance certificate for the full 800km. I would put any stamps between Pamplona and los Arcos in a different credential and start using the credential from last time when you reach Los Arcos. This will show a continuous journey from St Jean. Lots of people walk in stages, but it might be confusing if you have stamps from Pamplona to Los Arcos twice.

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
If you continue to use your previous credencial it will, presumably, show two stamps from Pamplona separated only by time. That ought to meet at least one set of PO criteria- the contiguous journey to Santiago. Whether there can be any objection to the issue of a distance certificate where some of the distance has been walked twice will depend on the volunteer on the desk 😉
The DC is a “souvenir”. The volunteer will refer to a standard table for most routes: CF from StJ - can; Norte from Irun- ykm. They’ll not take into consideration any meandering you might have undertaken or your GPS records. So, if your credencial(s) demonstrate that you started in an obscure little town in the Pay’s Basque and walked all the way to the old boys bones you’ll have no trouble. Buen Camino

Get a spanish phone number with Airalo. eSim, so no physical SIM card. Easy to use app to add more funds if needed.
Molly’s advice is good. Carry on where you left off and ‘bank’ the overlap in a separate credencial. That’s the basis for my ‘bits and pieces’ credential, a long patchwork of short sections which I want to remember, but which don’t really contribute to a compostella (which I no longer claim in any case)

Yes, continue your credential where you left off. You might end up with stamps from Pamplona to Los Arcos on it again (because all albergues automatically try to stamp your credential) - but when you check in at the Pilrgrim's office you will just tell them you started in SJPDPD and finished at Santiago - and make sure you get all of those stamps after Los Arcos! You just won't get credit for walking Pamplona to Los Arcos a second time. No big deal. If you run out of space, just pick up an additional credential along the way. .

Technical backpack for day trips with backpack cover and internal compartment for the hydration bladder. Ideal daypack for excursions where we need a medium capacity backpack. The back with Air Flow System creates large air channels that will keep our back as cool as possible.

If you bring one or two credencials to prove you went the full distance, the 800 km certificate should be doable. if the credencial from the first part is not "closed / cancelled" - that is stamped at the Pilgrim Office on the inside front cover and last page of sellos, you can just pick it up and use it from where you left off.

OTOH, if you did have the Pilgrim office cancel it - many partial pilgrims do - just start a new credencial from where you left off, and bring the first one to demonstrate that you walked the full Camino, albeit in two segments. The staff will oblige.

Hope this helps,

Tom

As was said above, lots of pilgrims walk the CF in segments . In 2019, we walked SJPP-Burgos. This spring, we head back to complete the Burgos-Astorga section. A third trip will then take us into SdC. With our started Credencial, we’ll pick up with a second Burgos stamp showing the start of our second segment and continue picking up stamps from there. For the purposes of your continuation Camino, I’d start collecting stamps again in Los Arcos and use a backup one for the short distance between Pamplona and where you start afresh. You won’t have any probem getting your DC for the entire 800 kms.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.

This is the latest fad for Camino stay out of the wind and woods 🤗.
What are your favorite restaurants, bars, hotels, inns, etc on the Camino Frances NOT in albergues please? Gracias.
