Nope. Always lots of dog based excitement available on forums. Remember Shirley McLaine was eaten by the mad dogs of wherever it was but that wasn’t on the Invierno

Last spring on the Invierno I met loose dogs who behaved aggressively on a few occasions. None of them came close enough to attack me though. One dog in particular followed me growling while his buddies waited to see what would happen. As soon as I turned around and yelled at him and waved my poles in a threatening manner, he would back off. This was repeated a couple of times, until I was past his property. Kind of scary, but no harm done. The angriest dog was just after Pobra de Brollon. If that one hadn’t been chained to his doghouse I would probably not have survived. Unlike the dogs on the Frances, the dogs along the Invierno are not used to seeing pilgrims passing by.

I walked the Invierno last year and had seen a number of post about dogs… We ended up nicknaming all the friendly pups we met along the way “wild dogs on the Camino“ - a beautiful walk and not a single bad encounter with dogs.

We finished our Invierno mid May. We had a “live from the Camino thread” if you want to read about our dog encounters. No bites but for me - a scaredy cat when it comes to dogs, it was scary - but I made it through unscathed.

The focus is on reducing the risk of failure through being well prepared. 2nd ed.
I also walked in mid-May. There was one loud, lunging dog on a chain (who was justifiably frustrated) just before (I think) Montforte -- but that was it.

The 2024 Camino guides will be coming out little by little. Here is a collection of the ones that are out so far.
I think the famous snarling chained dog has died of old age now.
We walked the Invierno in March/April this year and I nervously kept an eye out for said dog, but, thankfully, no sign. There were quite a few snarky dogs, but they were chained up. We encountered a few loose dogs, but although some barked, none came after us or bit us. We tried to keep calm, not make eye contact and just kept walking calmly. All was well. We were also 'escorted' by the German Shepherd dog that has been mentioned. He was lovely.
