2015 Camino Frances 2017 Camino Norte
Hi Pilgrims

I am looking at walking the Camino Frances again (did it first in Sept/Oct 2015) in September, but I am concerned re the impact to the experience of drought and reported fires (in Spain). I'd appreciate any thoughts from pilgrims currently walking.

Is the drought or fires causing any issues of note for pilgrims? I could swap and redo the Norte (done in Sept/Oct 2017).

Any photos relating would help

Cheers & Thanks
Peter

€2,-/day will present your project to thousands of visitors each day. All interested in the Camino de Santiago.
Currently on the Frances, reached Logrono today, and becuase of work commitments will end this current Camino here. We have had no issues whatsoever in relation to fires etx. We have, however been subject to more town closures because of it being fiesta season- but that’s a) not unusual and b) something we should have been prepared for, admittedly we forgot! It’s been fine just many albergues closed for the week and shops/bars/restaurants keeping unusual hours. It hasn’t spoiled our experience- just made us think a little more creatively!
The heat on the other hand would definitely make us think twice about recommending august as a Camino month- albeit we understand this year is exceptional, everywhere!
Good luck in September- buen camino

Just curious - any particular overall fiesta, or just individual local ones?

I’ve been on the CF since the 27th and fires haven’t been an issue for me yet. Currently in Boadilla having started from SJPDP.

Thanks for the response - I'll keep the fiestas in mind. I've delayed till September because of the heat (even though I am an Aussie....).

Cheers

Individual local ones- the week 14-21 August covers the Assumption of Mary so that’s played a part for sure. It’s been great to be a part of it where possible, especially the kids bull run in Los Arcos, but siesta and fiesta opening hours made getting food at the point we stopped walking a little tricky.
